When Pellas discovers his friend in a tryst with Arcade, he raises his sword - but cannot strike so abandons his weapon. In seeing the sword Gawain recognizes his sense of righteousness and recognises his wrong doing. Gawain convinces Arcade to stay with Pellas - he was the first to win her favor.
