Eau Sans Pareil opens with sparkling aldehydes, citrus, fruit, cypress, and pink pepper before a dense floral-spiced heart develops through jasmine, rose, orris, ylang-ylang, orange blossom, licorice, and clove. Patchouli, vetiver, cedarwood, oakmoss, musk, vanilla, labdanum, and benzoin create a broad chypre-style base. The 2011 interpretation was created by Beverley Bayne as a transformed return of an earlier Penhaligon’s name. It has since been discontinued and remains in the catalog as an archived reference rather than current production.

Summary

Penhaligon’s Eau Sans Pareil is a discontinued floral-fruity chypre with an unusually broad palette of sparkling fruit, florals, spice, moss, woods, and resins. Aldehydes, citrus, raspberry, pineapple, and cypress create a bright complex opening before rose, jasmine, orris, orange blossom, ylang-ylang, licorice, and clove make the center floral and spicy. Oakmoss, patchouli, vetiver, cedar, musk, vanilla, labdanum, and benzoin create a warm textured drydown. Beverley Bayne created the 2011 interpretation for Penhaligon’s Anthology project. The fragrance is now discontinued and correctly retained as an Archive product. Its 6-8 hour wear and moderate projection make it useful as a historical reference for shoppers exploring discontinued Penhaligon’s releases.
